Item descriptionYou Fab 2013
You Fab is a laser cutter design contest conducted by FabCafe and Loftwork. For the second You Fab contest held in 2013, we called for design ideas based on the three design categories of A: Toys, B: Greeting Cards, and C: Party Outfits and Accessories, and we received many unique designs from all over the world.
Explanation of works:
These are paper tiles that anyone can easily put together by hand to make a polyhedron or dome. The polygons are the same length. They are put together in the same manner, and can be assembled and pulled apart easily. No need for glue or buttons! Thanks to the pliability of paper, you can make completely balanced objects which are impossible to make using hard materials.
How to make it:
▼What you will need:
●Laser cutter data (You can download this from the link below)
●One sheet of paper measuring 394x545mm
(The paper should be fairly thick and strong. Paper that does not tear easily is best.)
Something like the fine leather-inspired paper called Cordoba 300kg would work.)
▼How to fabricate and construct it:
1. Based on the laser cutter data that you downloaded, use the laser cutter to cut out the parts from the paper of your choice.
※When using the laser cutter, please use the following guide for the various lines shown on the data.
※The strength setting of the laser depends on the type of paper used. Test the settings using the edges of the paper to find the correct setting for your paper.
2. You can make the shape of your choice by simply putting the pieces together by hand. Each side is difference, so when putting it together, make sure to use the same sides.
