FAB Ideation

FabCafe Hong Kong is a creative community platform. We want to connect people from various different fields of expertise to collaborate on meaningful projects together. FabCafe provides a space and digital fabrication tools that encourage exploration of innovative and exciting ideas for businesses and individual creators.

At FabCafe we host ideation sessions to delve into various social or environmental problems and use creative techniques to explore solution ideas. It is also an opportunity to practice Design Thinking and foster meaningful conversations.

THEME “Transforming Education with Games”

The educational system in Hong Kong is modeled after the British school system but is also heavily influenced by traditional Chinese culture and values. According to Confucian beliefs, diligence and hard work is the only key to success. Many parents push their children with high expectations of outstanding performance and academic results, and teachers have a tendency to focus on the learning outcomes and not the learning process.

But is it true that reading textbooks and writing long essays is the only way to learn?

The Learning to Learn curriculum reform that began in 2001, have advocated a paradigmatic shift towards greater emphasis on all-round personal development and process-focused learning styles like ‘applied learning’, ‘enquiry learning’, ‘joyful learning’, ‘lifelong learning’ etc. However, more effort is required to integrate these new approaches in the local schools.

Can we use games to provide new opportunities for everyone to have fun while learning?

Join us on 21 May for inspiring discussions and sharing of ideas! After the event, participants are encouraged to submit their works to the Innovative Game Design Challenge. Winners will receive monetary prizes of up to US$1200 and be featured across Loftwork and FabCafe networks, getting the chance to exhibit at selected FabCafe locations, as well as the potential for manufacturing.
