ISAN Value UP: Explore World-Class Design Cases from 3 FabCafes in Japan!

Join us as FabCafe Kyoto, FabCafe Hida, and FabCafe Fuji come together to share inspiring ideas on how to elevate local treasures into must-have products and beautiful art pieces.

CEA and TCDC Surin, TCDC Sisaket, TCDC Abon Ratchathani, in collaboration with FabCafe Bangkok, As part of the “ISAN Value UP: Enhancing Isan Value” project, we will promote the creation of “good things that people want, when they want them” utilizing Isan culture and characteristics. This will be done through a five-month Upskill & Reskill contest targeting residents of Surin, Sisaket, and Ratchathani provinces. The goal is to enhance added value and competitiveness, and to enter new markets.

We invite household members and those interested in exchanging knowledge and experiences to creative spaces like FabCafe Kyoto, FabCafe Hida, and FabCafe Fuji. These are places that connect design, technology, and creative industries to cities and communities.

Come decode the success behind these three creative communities, where design and technology serve as bridges connecting community and the creative economy in meaningful and sustainable ways.

From mayors engaging tourists in Hida to the giant cotton textile factory covering household roofs, flint quarries, and the developing lakeside rock formations—all are driving forces supporting the town’s sustainable development by “regenerating” characteristics, traditions, and stories into new products and services.

The wood for this Japanese shrine was procured through Hidakuma, a regional platform co-founded by Loftwork and local studio Tobimushi that connects designers and creators with Hida’s traditional woodcraft heritage.
