As part of FabCafe KL FabFuture exploration, we are hosting our first online meetup with Eats, Shoots and Roots to talk about food security, growing your own food in the city and the role of design in urban farming.
Aside from the known fact that the world’s population is expected to reach almost 10 billion by the year 2050 – putting unprecedented demands on food production, the recent Covid-19 pandemic have also highlighted our dependence on the global supply chain. Malaysia imports a majority of its food and when borders were closing and export restrictions tighten, we saw how this dependence threatened our food security.
