The art of paper making is an age old tradition dating all the way back to 25 – 220 CE. Making paper is a very fascinating experience as the medium holds boundless potential and creative possibilities from the type of plant fibers you use to make the paper, to adding dye to create different hues of paper and even adding dried leaves, flowers and glitter to your paper!

There are many ways to make paper, including Eastern & Western techniques that involve dipping or pouring. All these techniques allow you to create unique, handcrafted sheets from recycled papers or plant materials.

This workshop will bring you through the five stages in paper making:
1. pulp preparation – basic knowledge on the two different types of pulp
2. Making paper
3. Couching
4. Pressing
5. Drying

At the end, you will take home about 2 – 3 pieces of paper made by you.

This project lead by Yvonne Ou Yong. Her exposure and interest in papermaking came from seeing a handcrafted work made by a close friend many years ago. From there, her love for handmade recycled papers started to grow, that made her decided to explore it for herself. The most interesting part of papermaking is not the outcome but rather the process.

By Sharing her knowledge in papermaking, she wishes to inculcate interest and appreciation of how things can be made by hand, and also to hope that the process of traditional craft making can still be carried on in this digital age.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and those wanting to learn a new craft!
Workshop fees are inclusive of a drink of your choice from our menu and paper making kit that you can take home to continue making your own paper at home.
