What are we doing?
Approaches that utilize the sense of touch are attracting attention as a design technology method to further improve the experience of seeing and hearing that has been used as a means of expression and communication. The HAPTIC DESIGN PROJECT organizes events inviting researchers and creators from the haptic community. We are also involved in a number of joint research and development projects between the tactile design community and companies.
Why do we do it?
The reason FabCafe conducts research and development utilizing haptic technology is because we believe that technological development in the haptic field will become indispensable as communication that utilizes more physicality, as typified by the development of robotics and VR/AR, becomes more widespread. FabCafe also has a demo environment where you can experience various haptic technologies, so please come and try them out.

Kazuya Ohara
Loftwork Inc. / FabCafe MTRL Producer
Joined Loftwork Inc. in 2015. He works as a project space FabCafe MTRL producer to create communities, projects and new businesses to create new value. He is also the editor of “Can Fashion be Renewed? Conference: Dreaming up the Process Innovation of People, Clothes and Society”. His nickname is “Benkei”.

Kazuya Yanagihara
Loftwork Inc. / MTRL Creative Director
Born in Osaka, Japan. He joined Loftwork in 2018 and has been with MTRL since the following year. After working for an editorial production company in Osaka producing information magazines and university brochures, he entered the Graduate School of Media Design at Keio University. He is a member of the Somatic Media Project and is involved in the management of the Haptic Design Project as a researcher after completing his master’s degree. In his private life, he works with his friends from graduate school under the name “GADARA” on the theme of harmony between natural objects and technology.
