In July 2023, Proof of Japan and FabCafe Kyoto co-hosted the event ‘Exploring the Possibilities between NFTs and Traditional Culture’, Since then, they have also co-hosted regular online workshops to introduce the basics of NFTs to those involved in traditional crafts and culture.

We do not believe that NFTs or other Web3 technology are a one-stop solution to the challenges facing the traditional crafts scene. Instead, through these workshops, we seek to create a space where the experts of traditional culture and crafts have access to knowledge about new technologies and spark more discussions about the possibilities of creating within the intersection of the two.

This event is ticketed through the Rove World application. Please purchase a ticket through Rove World.
Your digital hyougu art creation will be sent to you as an NFT through the Rove World app.

Tickets can only be bought through the smart phone application. Rove World is not supported on web browsers.

This October, Proof Of Japan has partnered with Masahiro Inoue (井上雅博) of Kogado to create an experience that combines the art of this fusuma mounter with customizable generative AI. Join us in this event to try your hand at creating a digital art piece in the style of Inoue.

Masahiro Inoue is the third generation Hyougu master (traditional art mounting craftsman) of Kogado, a company specializing in renewing and restoring hanging scrolls, folding screens and other artworks. Kogado also creates traditional interior elements such as sliding doors, shoji screens and wall papering for shrines, temples and sukiya (tea-ceremony house) buildings throughout Japan. Inoue aims to create a new style of Japanese decoration by searching for the best way to match modern architectural style, through the theme of ‘Traditional Elements of Hyougu x ART’.

Under Inoue’s direction, Proof of Japan has created a tool to generate artwork through generative AI. Generative AI has been causing a buzz with its ability to create new content by drawing on a vast library of available knowledge. This might come in the form of text, such as chatGPT writing new stories in the style of Soseki or Midjourney creating realistic photographs with fantastical subjects.

Combined with the art of Masahiro Inoue, what will each participant create? Through generative AI, we explore a new interpretation of traditional Japanese Hyougu.

*The art you create will be airdropped (sent) to you after the event as an NFT through the ROVE World application that you buy this event’s entrance ticket in.

Masahiro Inoue re-interprets the art of hyougu to create entirely new works with modern art such as graffiti.

As part of the entire experience, we would like guests to try purchasing their entrance tickets not through traditional means, but by buying an NFT. As an example of organizing an event that only NFT holders can attend, all participants will be required to hold an NFT event ticket.  The event tickets will be sold on the Rove World app. Rove World has worked with major brands such as Tommy Hilfiger to provide ticketing and loyalty solutions. Purchases on the Rove World app can be made easily with Japanese Yen. The digital hyougu art you create will be sent to you as an NFT through the Rove World application.

We will be guiding participants on how to download and purchase a ticket through the Rove World application before the program starts. If you require assistance with purchasing a ticket, please reach the venue at 18:30. For those who purchase their tickets before hand, please arrive before 19:00 when the program starts.

・18:30 – ROVE World app download and ticket purchase guidance
・19:00 – Program starts (all participants in the venue are required to have their tickets scanned)

This event is organised in collaboration with Proof Of Japan.

Proof Of Japan is a new company established jointly by SMBC Nikko Securities and AI robot and IoT device developer Hatapro to conduct web3-related business. Realizing that the innate potential value of Japanese culture and performing arts can only be realised through the support of a global community, the company was set up with the aim of forming a global support community, utilizing Web3 and metaverse technologies to create a modern gathering space.
