Using her own body as a starting point, Marina Lisa Komiya has been exploring new ways of reproduction and breeding through her art, based on her interest in a new theory of time that emerges from a queer perspective on media including performance, video, place management, and manga. The work presented in her latest solo exhibition, “CLEAN LIFE,” was created through cell culture experiments at BioClub. She will present about the works she has created and produced based on her research on cell culture, cultured meat, biopolitics, and the ecosystems created in the intertwining of humans, animals, nature, capital, and the environment.

Marina Lisa Komiya
Artist/Arter/Cartoonist
Born 1992 in Atlanta in the US and currently based in Tokyo, Japan. Komiya’s focus is to explore new methods of reproduction through various mediums such as installation, bio technology, performance, video works, and management of spaces. All their works use their own body to practice queer theory. A few examples of their works are the management of “ Flower Shop,” selling flowers that absorbed Komiya’s own sweat. “Reproducing Garden” was another project, a film in which they created a garden as an alternative form of a household. The film compares residential land on which development is impermissible due to current Japanese building codes, to law restricting same sex marriage. They are also a host of a queer artists platform, “”FAQ?””.
