The Overview of YouFab2019 Winning Works
https://www.youfab.info/2019/winners.html

In December 2019, a panel of judges gathered to select the winning works. After a strict and fair examination of the entries with this year’s topic, “Conviviality”, in mind, a diverse group of judges have made their choice. Rather than focusing on the use of technology and level of completion, they awarded works that valued process and approach without fixating on the goal, works that realized the openness of variability. This year’s lineup of works showed a number of new ways to interpret Fab, ranging from such intangible concepts as creating a space for conversation or a Make-a-thon, to a poetic robotics research and exhibits discussing the problem of military bases in Okinawa.

A comment from YouFab Global Creative Award 2019 Chief Judge, Kei Wakabayashi:
“We had to set Fab free from the concept of ‘making things’ and try extending our thoughts to the ‘way of creating’ new places, systems, relationships between people. Once we adopted this point of view, the division between the digital and the physical or the burden of having to value the technology itself simply disappeared. I feel that the works awarded at YouFab will assume great significance as they symbolically express how society will develop in the 2020s.”
