FabCafe Tokyo is excited to host the talented illustrator Lin Cha-Yu, widely known as Cafe Note Lin, for an intimate workshop on cafe and interior sketching.
Lin will share insights and experiences gained from sketching over 500 cafes worldwide, from Portland to Japan and Taiwan. Participants are invited to observe and draw from the unique perspectives of design and cafe management.

- If you would like to use the same material as the artist, Lin uses a Maruman Mnemosyne grid notebook

In conjunction with the hands-on workshop, visitors can enjoy an exhibition featuring Cafe Note Lin’s sketches and her creative process at FabCafe Tokyo from December 12th to 20th, 2023.
The exhibition will be open during FabCafe’s regular hours, except on December 20th, when it will be finished by 17:00 h.

Lin Cha-Yu
Cafe Owner, Illustrator, Space Observer
Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Lin Cha-Yu came to Japan in 2008 to study. After graduating from Osaka Designer’s School, she worked in interior design in Tokyo. In the summer of 2017, she and her partner moved to Hida Takayama, Gifu Prefecture, where they opened Cafe Courier, a cafe they renovated themselves. In 2015, inspired by cafes visited during her travels, Lin started sketching the layout, design details, and menus by hand.
Currently, she observes and records cafes worldwide from the perspectives of design and cafe management, noting down details of over 500 cafes. In 2019, she published a book titled “紙上咖啡館旅行” featuring 80 cafes in Asia in Taiwan. Besides managing the cafe, she continues to draw, holding exhibitions in various locations. After self-publishing four books covering Fukuoka, Hida, Sapporo, and Tokyo, she published “發現城市咖啡館〔台北×東京〕” in Taiwan in 2023.

Mingchieh Wu
FabCafe Creative Director
Born and raised in Taiwan, graduated from Taiwan University with a bachelor of arts at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) with a Master for Fine Arts in Scene Design. Ming specialized in scene design for stage, film, and exhibition in Taipei and Los Angeles, and she immersed herself in digital fabrication and physical model making. She came to Japan in 2022, when she joined Loftwork and FabCafe. Ming’s hobbies include illustration and ceramics; she loves animals and plants.

Judit Moreno
FabCafe Creative Director
Born in Spain. Graduated from Barcelona Autonomous University with a Bachelor’s Degree in East Asian Studies, during which she spent a year abroad at Kansai University of Foreign Studies (2012-2013). After earning a MA in Arts and Cultural Management at King’s College London (2015), she worked for 6 years at the Culture Section of the Consulate General of Japan in Barcelona. At the same time, she also undertook several translation and interpreting projects.
In 2022, Judit joined Loftwork and FabCafe Global to reinforce the global communication strategy and support joint projects with overseas creators, aiming to establish bonds that transcend language and national borders. She is interested in cross-cultural exchange, illustration, traditional crafts, and green design.
