Drawing Community

StoryLines is a community where people of all kinds come together to create, learn, and inspire each other through the universal language of drawing. It is a place to share stories of insight, imagination and awe, and expand creative potential through regular practice.

Storytelling is an essential human skill

For centuries, humankind has relied on words and pictures to exchange information and inspiration in the form of stories. Stories help us convey our most personal thoughts and emotions, and enable us to communicate and connect with the people around us. They are powerful tool to present information in an understandable and attractive way, to convey difficult or abstract concepts, and to bridge diverse cultural and personal backgrounds.

As kids, but also after growing up, stories make us laugh and cry and make new discoveries that fill us with awe. They shape the way we understand our beautiful and complex world and give color and meaning to our everyday lives.

Drawing is a universal language

Drawing has been a popular and fundamental means of personal and public expression throughout human history. It is one of the simplest and most efficient ways of communicating an idea, regardless of cultural background and language.

Drawing is a primary tool of investigation and discovery

The process of drawing requires not only effort to see, but also to understand. Drawing is a way of observing and thinking, helping to make sense of the world and providing fresh perspectives.

Drawing is a powerful tool to visualize ideas

Drawing helps shape and convey the abstract, making it a useful tool for prototyping, imagining, and projecting thoughts and ideas.

  • Workshops

A place where professional artists share their learnings and insights

The StoryLines workshops invite experienced artists to share their personal stories of creative practice. Offering a combination of theoretical and practical elements, they encourage participants to explore their own creativity through diverse graphic means of expression such as sketching, illustration, animation, printmaking or calligraphy.

  • Drawing Meetups

Creativity is a habit. Habit is born from community.

The StoryLines Drawing MeetUp takes place once a month at FabCafe Tokyo. Sharpen your pencils, charge your iPad, and drop by to sketch, chat and have fun! You can work on your own illustrations or take inspiration from our Prompts Box. We will have a bit of time at the end to exchange insights and encouragement. All artist skill levels and people of all ages are welcome.
