開催主旨 / The purpose of this event

ロンドンより来日中の、UAL(ロンドン芸術大学)チェルシーカレッジオブアーツ テキスタイルデザインコースの「スマートテキスタイル・ラボ(smart textiles lab)」のデザイナー3名によるリサーチの報告会を開催します。

スマートテキスタイル・ラボは、学生、スタッフ、外部パートナーのための創造性と実験を目的に、同校デザイン&マテリアル実践プログラムのディレクター Caryn Simonson氏によって始められました。

2018年以来、コロナ禍を挟んで 5年ぶりの訪日となる今回の滞在では、“Smart Textiles & Textiles Innovation” をテーマに、丹後エリアを中心にリサーチとディスカッションを行っています。国際的な知見と技術の交換とコラボレーションが拓くテキスタイルデザインの新たな可能性について、関心をお持ちの方はぜひお越しください。

FabCafe Kyoto will hold a research debriefing session by three designers from the Chelsea College of Arts, Textile Design who are visiting Japan from London.

The smart textiles lab was started by Caryn Simonson, director of the Chelsea College of Arts’ Design and Materials Practice Program, for creativity and experimentation for students, staff and external partners.

This will be their first visit to Japan in five years since 2018 after the pandemic, and they are conducting research and discussions centered around the Tango area under the theme of “Smart Textiles & Textiles Innovation.” If you are interested in the new possibilities of textile design opened up by international exchange and collaboration of knowledge and technology, please come and visit us.

  • Caryn Simonson

    Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London / Design and Material Practices Programme Director

    Caryn Simonson is Programme Director for Textile Design at Chelsea College of
    Arts and internationally known for her innovative work across photography,
    video, sculpture, installation and writing.

  • Jane Murrow

    Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London / MA Textile Design Course Leader

    Jane Murrow is a lecturer, knitwear designer and trend consultant.
    She trained in textile design at undergraduate level, before going on to complete an MA in fashion at Central St Martins.
    Murrow was co-founder and owner of the then ground-breaking Hoxton Boutique in 2000, the first independent fashion and lifestyle store in east London.She has worked for and sold work to many internationally renowned brands including Chloe, Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Alexander Wang, Nicole Farhi, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Topshop, Sandro and Maje.
    Having been an Associate Lecturer at UAL for many years, Murrow was recently appointed as Course Leader of MA Textile Design at Chelsea College of Arts, where her passions for design, sustainability and education are brought together to help inspire the next generation of designers.

    Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London / Graduate Diploma in Textile Design Course leader

    Claire Anderson is a textile designer, researcher and educator. whosepractice
    and teaching is underpinned by responsible and futures thinking design
    approaches. Claire has worked commercially across different design disciplines
    including fashion, interiors and CMF. As Course Leader on the Graduate Diploma
    Textile Design Course, at Chelsea College of Arts, Claire has been embedding
    interactive textiles into the course curriculum. She is part of the newly formed
    smart textiles/e-textiles specialist interest group at Chelsea, working to better
    support students to understand the implications of their design decision making
    around e-textiles and helping them develop new research skills.
