Do you want to create your own card wallet using Mycelium Leather?
Join us on October 1st to become acquainted with Mylea™, also known as Mycelium Leather, a vegan leather product developed by Mycotech Lab (“MYCL”). Mylea™ is a strong material created from agroforestry byproduct, which makes it a sustainable, eco-friendly alternative to animal leather.
This workshop will be facilitated by FabCafe Fab Director and leather artisan, Kina Sakai, and MYCL team members.
What makes Mylea™ interesting is that it is made from agroforestry byproduct, and therefore it is a sustainable, eco-friendly material. The Mycelium leather structure includes a direct-bonded enforcement of fabric to enhance the tear strength of the material, making it durable and heat resistant.
Furthermore, Mylea™ has a customizable characteristic surface texture surprisingly similar to that of animal leather. It can be used in a wide variety of products ranging from stylish clothes, accessories and footwear to even furniture and household items, and it has been featured on numerous occasions at the Paris Fashion Week.
In the current global context that urgently calls for sustainable materials and manufacturing ecosystems, Mylea™ stands out for its responsible fabrication process, efficient use of agrowaste, and extensive range of applications.
- About the unique qualities of Mylea™ Mycelium Leather.
- How to make a card wallet from Mylea™ using the laser cutter machine.
At the end of the session, you will have fabricated your very own card case to take home with you!
This workshop is part of the WTF! We The Future Exhibition, which aims at redefining what future technology is by asking the question of “What is The Future?”.
Mycotech Lab (“MYCL”) realized that future technology should be an innovation which will make sure there will be a future for our children. Their goals are to utilize waste to prevent it from polluting the environment, to develop bio-based tech instead of fossil-based tech, to implement circular cycles instead of linear processes, and to grow material without killing any animals.
To make people aware of this campaign, MYCL has decided to create more impact with a bigger market. Japan is a country that fits the MYCL vision and mission and will become a second home to launch an exhibition and MYCL Japan facility in Nagano Prefecture.
As a stepping stone to introduce MYCL and the Mylea™ products and materials to the wider global community, FabCafe Tokyo will host the WTF! Exhibition and related events from September 22 – October 2, 2022. Please see the official event page below for further details.
